Why Does Cable Not Have the Same International Programming as Satellite TV?

Cable's international programming is very limited as opposed to satellite television. This is due to the different transmittal routes. Satellite television carry's over 500 digital channels compared to the 100+ of cable. This allows satellite to carry programming that appeals to a niche market. The cost to cable companies to carry specific programming for a market that exists nationwide but is very limited in their geographic region would not make sense financially.
